On the morning of August 26, 2026, a sudden and powerful flash flood tore through the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa district, devastating the border communities of Syabrubesi and Timure. Suspected to be a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) originating from Tibet, the surge struck without warning, leaving families almost no time to escape. Today, these communities need our help.
The destruction has been severe. Roughly 60 houses and two bridges were swept away, the Timure customs office was badly damaged, and several telecom towers collapsed, cutting off vital communication during rescue efforts. Homes were lost, livelihoods disrupted, and families displaced. For a region that depends heavily on trekking tourism and cross-border trade, the road to recovery will be long and difficult.
Syabrubesi is the gateway to the beloved Langtang Valley, Tamang Heritage, and Gosaikunda treks. The warm teahouse owners, guides, porters, and villagers who welcome trekkers from around the world are the very people now facing the hardest days of their lives. Tragically, this is the second major glacial flood to strike this corridor in just 13 months, deepening the hardship for an already vulnerable community.
