Help Rebuild Rasuwa: Support Bhotekoshi Flood Survivors

On the morning of August 26, 2026, a sudden and powerful flash flood tore through the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa district, devastating the border communities of Syabrubesi and Timure. Suspected to be a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) originating from Tibet, the surge struck without warning, leaving families almost no time to escape. Today, these communities need our help.

The Scale of the Disaster (22 sep 2026)

According to the latest update from Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), dated 20 September 2026:

  • 1,451 people have died
  • 5,786 people remain missing, including 636 foreign nationals
  • 13,784 people have been rescued
  • 10,163 people have received medical treatment
  • 15 people remain hospitalised
  • Search, rescue, relief and recovery efforts are continuing.

The Government of Nepal’s Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment estimates approximately NPR 408 billion (around USD 2.7 billion) in damage and economic losses. An estimated NPR 723 billion will be required for reconstruction, rehabilitation and economic recovery.

The disaster has affected thousands of homes and caused extensive damage to roads, bridges, schools, water systems, hydropower infrastructure and other essential facilities.

Nepal Care Concern’s Emergency Response

Our First Emergency Relief Operation

Immediately following the disaster, Nepal Care Concern (NCC) initiated an emergency relief response to support families whose homes, livelihoods and access to essential services had been severely affected.

For more than one month, our team has worked to reach affected communities and provide essential food and basic household necessities to more than 150 families.

This assistance was made possible through the generous support of our donors, partners and well-wishers. Their solidarity enabled us to respond to urgent needs at a time when many families had lost their homes, livelihoods and access to basic supplies.

This first emergency response was an important beginning, but the needs are far from over.

As communities move from immediate emergency relief towards recovery, families continue to require support for safe shelter, education, healthcare, livelihoods and the rebuilding of their homes and communities

Your donation can make a real difference. Contributions help provide emergency shelter, clean water, food, medical care, and rebuilding support for affected families. Every rupee and every dollar goes toward helping these mountain communities recover and stand strong again.

If you have trekked through Langtang, dreamed of visiting, or simply want to support resilient people in a time of crisis, please consider giving today. Together, we can help Rasuwa rebuild.
